Baltimore. B’More.
Home of my favorite baseball field, and a place that Keith and I lived from 1999-2005 and have occasionally visited since then. We lived in the suburb Owings Mills, I (finally) got my bachelor’s degree from Towson University, and despite the ongoing issues the city has, we kinda miss it. It was near water, had plentiful jobs, but the housing prices and traffic especially killed us. I had a chance to go back in 2009 while at a conference and was amazed at how much more the downtown had expanded and cleaned up. There is so much to see & do here, but I will highlight a few favorites.
-Eat at Helmand – a great Afghanistan restaurant in Charles Village
-Head to Fells Point for a busy night of bar hopping and snacking
-Visit Fort McHenry and try to visualize the scene that prompted the writing of our hard to sing national anthem
-Visit the American Visionary Art Museum – My favorite piece was a life size man made out of electrical wires
-Check out Camden Yards – while the Orioles…struggle…it’s a great field to watch a game
There is lots more to do and you can have a lot of fun just wandering the city. A visit to the Eastern shore is also worth it, along with a side trip to Annapolis.
There is a good chance we will be back through Baltimore during our RV adventures. Who knows? Keith might even get a contract here and we will fight traffic for awhile, soaking up the sights & good food again.
