Twin Rocks, Oregon

Last year before we left Georgia, we went to the Harvest Moon Festival and managed to see quite a few acts we enjoyed. The stand out favorite however, was Shawn Mullins. The very first song he played was Twin Rocks, Oregon and that song has been played many, many times since then.

One of my favorite verses:

well, I told him I too had been
travelin’ around
livin out of my van from town to town
playin for tips and whatever records
I could move
I said “I don’t reckon i’ll be
makin it big,
you know it’s hard to get rich
off a tour of coffee house gigs”
and he said “yeah, but ain’t it a blessin
to do what you wanna do…”

That last line just about makes me cry in my cubicle. Because what we want to be doing is traveling, not stuck in a cube. But we are working on that….

So this past weekend we decided another drive to the ocean was in order, and we headed out. Our destination was Tillamook, but when I saw how close Twin Rocks was, it was an obvious detour.

Now, there are no cliffs to speak of, but the scenery was still amazing. Two rocks jutting out of the water, attracting circles of birds and waves crashing. We spent some time walking on the dog friendly beach, thinking about what direction we want to go in and overall just enjoying the fresh air from the salty sea.
